Easter!

April 6, 2015

Happy Easter everybody!

What exactly is the meaning of easter?
Why have I not posted in a long time? It's as if I disappeared from all social media (jk).
Why aren't you blogging as much as you did in 2014?
     Do you still love us?

Let's start with easter. People think it's all about the easter egg hunt and finding candy goodness on the inside of the colourful plastic egg shells (I mean yes, it is entertaining). Some people think it's all about finding the easter bunny. Me? It's all about Jesus. Come on people! Jesus died on the cross and came back to life!! If that's not amazing, then I have no idea what is.

Because of our sins, he died on the cross. He didn't even do anything wrong and he was crucified in the worst way possible. He was whipped, beaten, mocked, and nailed onto the cross. He went through unimaginable pain for us. Because he loved us. You know, we don't even deserve the ultimate sacrifice from God, and yet He gave us eternal life.

"For God so loved the world,
that He gave His only begotten Son.
 That whosoever believes in Him,
shall not perish, but have eternal life."

John 3:16

Those are some pretty powerful words don't you think? Can I hear an amen?? Haha back to the point. In order to give us the gift of eternal life, God sent his only son, Jesus, to this sinful world to die for us (and in one of the most painful ways imaginable). Before this gets immensely sad, let's continue.
What exactly is the meaning of easter? Google, show us your magic.

  1. the most important and oldest festival of the Christian Church, celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ and held (in the Western Church) between March 21 and April 25, on the first Sunday after the first full moon following the northern spring equinox.
    • the period in which Easter occurs, especially the weekend from Good Friday to Easter Monday.

Thank you, Google. It's the celebration of Jesus's resurrection! He came BACK from the dead. Even death couldn't get a grip on him because he is so powerful, so amazing, so pure, and sin free! Not to mention, his dad's the creator of the universe. The celebration of the one and only son coming back to life is huge in my opinion. It fills my heart with joy to know that he is and will be coming back to get us.

What did I do for easter? On Saturday, I decorated a whole bunch of eggs with some friends. It took all day! It was for the church people and so we had more than one hundred eggs. We dyed (or painted) them, decorated them, drew designs on them, and even wrapped them. I had a lot of fun even though it was quite chaotic! Plus, we got to eat pizza.

On Sunday, we went to a Uruguayan church in the morning. Then, after lunch we went to a get together with about sixty people (probably more than that). We had a whole bunch of food and we all just talked and chilled together. Which was pretty nice since I stayed home for nearly six days straight. Yes, the sun kind of burned my poor skin.

The place had a huge field and what was so amazing about that field was that there were a lot of dogs. There were tiny little puppies to French bulldogs. Just saying, getting chased by a burly French bulldog while they grunt is one of the most horrifying experiences I have ever had. One puppy in particular stole my heart.

She was a beautiful chocolate labrador and she was seven weeks old! We ran together, we sat in the grass together, she fell asleep in my arms (I smelled like puppy afterwards), we played fetch, and we even went on the swings together! I really wanted to just take her home with me. She was my new best friend.

The really scary part was that she had razor sharp teeth. Like, REALLY REALLY SHARP TEETH. Please, I am not exaggerating. They were like tiny little jagged daggers that wanted to sink into anything. She really needed a chew toy in my opinion. So I was playing with her using a piece of bark while I sat on the floor. She jumped around trying to get the piece of wood away from my hand and was riled up. Whenever I would put it high up, she would jump and try to bite it.

When she was unsuccessful, once, she went after my poor legs. Her teeth went through my jeans. THROUGH it. I immediately stood up, but that didn't stop her from attacking me and getting me back for not giving her the piece of bark. She decided to go after my ankles. So yeah, I got chased by a baby chocolate lab.

There was also the easter egg hunt and I ran around like a crazy person trying to find everything. We played with the little kids and I was being really competitive and... Don't worry. I didn't hurt anybody. The last time I went easter egg hunting was probably when I was eight years old. I was a volunteer for school easter egg hunts, but we did the hiding and the cleaning and the stuffing the shells with candy part.

It was a busy weekend filled with happiness of Jesus's resurrection, eggs, and lots of puppy love. I will answer the other questions I mentioned earlier in the next post! I also hope you enjoyed my vlog of Peru! If you have not seen it yet, make sure to look up the Divine Star page on Facebook. If you cannot find it, just click on the Facebook tab on this website.

I hope everybody else had a lovely weekend and thank you guys so much for sticking around!

With all love,
         Joyce W.

P.S. We got our documents in for our visas (after seven months). Now we just wait! Thank you so much for your prayers!!
