First Week

August 29, 2014

Today is Gnocchi day!! Well, it is here at least. Celebrate gnocchi day with gnocchis everybody!

First week of Uruguay went by quickly. It's pretty cold here. Even though it's 60-70 degrees Fahrenheit, the cold wind and rain make it seem colder. Here it's like a... wet cold to the bones haha. Since it's cold around the house, I've been feeling pretty lazy. The main dish here is meat (Chivito) and I've had about four servings already the past couple of days. I am definitely gaining some weight by rolling around with a blanket on me.

Feeling like a blob of fat, my mom and I decided to go for a walk today along the beach. There's a sidewalk that circles around the coast for people who want to take a walk, bike, or rollerblade. It felt wonderful even though the wind was every cold. There were people out walking their dogs, spending time with family, and couples walking around while holding hands.

A few days ago, we got to spend a day with another missionary family to get to know them. We walked together, at that time too, but they told us that sometimes, on the beach, some of the people here do animal sacrfices to the "sea god". That was nice to know. Haha but God opened my eyes to how much these peopĺe needed Him. Also, there are a lot of people who smoke here. After all, marijuana IS legalized here. So are abortions and gay marriage. But while I was out walking with my mom, I saw how most of the people who were smoking looked really sad and... just, empty.

I pray that the missionaries in this lovely country, Uruguay, will be able to lead many people to Christ and show them His grace. There's a lot of darkness in this country and definitely in this world. But through Him, we can find light :) through Christ we can have eternal life with God. I want to be able to show that to the people here, but first things first! We must be able to make a lot of relationships with the people here. Please pray for us!
