After getting to Santiago, Chile, we arrived in Montevideo, Uruguay at 4 PM.
We got all of our luggage and just one item was missing, but other than that everything got to us. We got out of the plane, met with our friends, and drove to the apartment we were going to stay in until we got our visas.
My first thought about Uruguay was, "this place is amazing". When we were driving to the apartment, we got to see the beach. It wasn't amazingly beautiful but it was definitely something. I'm going to miss the mountains that were in Costa Rica, but I need to get familiar with the beach here too. The weather was very nice with sunshine and a cool breeze. Many people told us how this wasn't normal. Strange how we've heard that when we got to Costa Rica and Texas! Weird weather seems to follow us everywhere.
At the apartment, we didn't have any internet, but we still had a kitchen and two bathrooms so I couldn't complain. It is a nice apartment.
Another interesting thing about Uruguay is that the people here are European descent and so the environment is slightly European rather than Latino. Uruguayans love to eat MEAT! Which I can totally handle :) They have these dishes called Chivitos and they're SO GOOD. It´s literally just steak that was seasoned perfectly. Also, in the bathrooms, next to the toilets, there are these things called bitens(?). I never really got to see one in real life until a few days ago. I've only seen them in movies! Well, if you want to know what it is, look it up ;)
Each room has a window that overlooks the street. For security reasons, there's a cover to put over the window when you're not at home. It kind of looks like a garage door that you slide down with slits except these ones are made out of plastic, but they're still pretty heavy.
It took us a few days to unpack , but for me, I'm settled in. My room feels like it's mine now after I put up my posters and pictures on the walls.
The weather has gotten cold these days. First two days were warm but this morning it rained, which made the whole atmosphere bleak and dreary. Not my favorite but the coolness of the air feels good. It reminded me of the camp I went to in Costa Rica, La Cumbre :)
Saturday, we got to hang out with another missionary family who is part of our organization. They have three kids. The first son is off to college so I never got to meet him, the second son (who is maybe 14) loves to play X-Box (I found my gaming buddy), and the daughter (who is maybe... 12?) is a bundle of joy to hang out with (I don't really know their ages)!
I got to play Black Ops II with the second son which was pretty fun. Although I wasn't amazing at it, I still had a good time. After lunch our families took a walk near the beach and introduced us to their neighbors. The people here are very warm once you got to know them!
Sunday, we went to a Korean church just to get familiar with the Korean families who live around us. It was a very small church. Maybe around 25 people? After church we came home, my parents unpacked the rest of the luggage, and then we ate dinner.
Please pray that...
-We won't get sick as we get by Uruguay's cold winter
-We will be able to make lots of new friends
-We will be able to find a good church to attend and help
